Deleting Web Pages

To delete a web page select the "Edit Sections/Pages" option from the Admin menu. On the resulting form you can view a list of all of your pages and on that list access the delete option.

Currently as a precaution you can not delete pages that have children, so to delete a parent page you must first delete all children and then you can delete the parent.

How are errors caused by page deletes are avoided?

In order to help reduce page not found errors on the COCC web site, temporary system owned redirect pages can automatically be created when a page is deleted. You will also see similar redirects pages be created automatically when a section is renamed. This is done so that requests for the old page name can be appropriately forwarded to the new location. For deleted pages the redirect page that is created will send requests to the parent of the deleted page.

These automatic redirect pages will be deleted after 45 days with the expectation that they are no longer needed since search engines that had a record of the old page should have re-indexed the COCC site and as a result updated their search index to include the correct new page information.

IMPORTANT: When deleting and renaming pages administrators still need to update any known links to the old page so that COCC’s web content is correct. Otherwise when the automatic redirect pages are deleted after 45 days these existing references will be broken.

NOTE: The creation of these automatic redirect pages can be turned off by disabling Page Break Protection for the entire community. HOW? Go to your Community Web home page and chose the Edit Page Settings option. You will see this option in the General section.
