Creating a Blog Section

In addition to the variety of advanced section types such as Articles, Events, Photos, etc., a Blog section type was introduced to COCC Web Community in March 2007.

To create a Blog section simply create a new web page and name it appropriately for your blog and select "Blogs Section" under the "Page / Section Type" heading.

Upon creation make sure that you click the Advanced Options checkbox and review the security settings for your Blog, including whether or not comments are allowed and if so who is allowed to post them.

For the security of COCC's web:

  • When someone other than Staff is allowed to make comments, all blogs should be created with Moderation enabled so that any new posts (including comments) are reviewed before they are made visible to the public.

NOTE: Posts made by users with moderator rights are displayed immediately.

  • Users should be required to login before they can post their comments so the "Community-Everyone" role should NOT be given permissions to comment.

Latest Posts
When your community includes one or more Blog section you may want to consider displaying a web box on various pages throughout your community. Web boxes can automatically include the latest or the most popular posts made to any of the Blog sections in your community (archived blogs are not included) and therefore help to draw users to any recent posts.

More web box information is available here.

If you have questions about this feature please contact .

As time allows this information about how blogs function will be expanded. In the mean time, hopefully this will help you get started.
