Community Web Accounts
As of March 8, 2007 Community Web accounts can be tied to COCC's internal email/network account system (Windows Active Directory, a.k.a. "AD").
As a result all Faculty, Staff and Students can now log in to each of COCC's various web communities with their assigned COCC email/network username and password. However, logging in will only give the user access to add comments or make changes to the web if the associated web community is configured to allow your account access.
Existing Web Accounts
This change means that if existing Students or Staff wish to they can change their web account so that the password will always match their internal AD account. If a user chooses NOT to make this change their web administration password will remain unique to the web.
In order to simplify support by minimizing common account confusion, ITS recommends that you connect your web accounts to your AD account. Instructions for how to make this change are available here.
New Web Accounts
Whenever a user tries to log-in to the web, AD is checked to see if the account entered is valid (username and password match) and if so and a web profile does not already exist using the specified accounts email address, a new profile will automatically be created.
If the individual trying to log in is not a COCC Faculty, Staff or Student and therefore does not have an account in COCC's AD system they will need to register for a local web specific account.
Passwords
Local Web Only Accounts: Passwords can be changed by following these instructions. AD Accounts (web accounts connected to COCC's network/email system): Passwords must be changed while logged in to a Campus computer or COCC's web based email system.
