IMAP Settings

In addition to accessing your COCC email account off-campus using OWA, users can use an IMAP client of their choice.

IMAP Incoming Mail Server:    owa.ad.cocc.edu
SMTP Outgoing Mail Server:    owa.ad.cocc.edu

The login username and password settings are the same as those used for normal network/email access. See the COCC accounts web page for more information.

Accessing COCC's Email Directory

Configuring Outlook Express 4 or higher for IMAP (first time set up)

Follow the steps below to set up Outlook Express to use IMAP:

  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. Click 'Tools' from the menu at the top of the screen, then click 'Accounts'
  3. Click the 'Add' button to the right then click 'Mail'
  4. The 'Your Name' window displays. On the 'Display Name' line type your real name and then click the 'Next>' button.
  5. This displays the 'Internet E-mail Address' window. Click 'I already have an e-mail address I'd like to use' to select it, then on the 'E-mail Address' line type in your COCC e-mail address in the format: flast@cocc.edu. Then click the 'Next>' button.
  6. This displays the 'E-mail Servers' window. This is where you will tell the computer specific information about the mail server. Fill in the information as below:
    • My Incoming mail server is a  IMAP  server.
    • Incoming mail server:   owa.ad.cocc.edu
    • Outgoing mail server:   owa.ad.cocc.edu
  7. Click the 'Next>' button.
  8. The 'Internet Mail Login' window displays. On the 'Account Name' line type your COCC email address. On the 'Password' line type in your COCC email password. (Click for username & password help.)
  9. Leave the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" option OFF and click the 'Next>' button.
  10. Click the 'Finish' button to complete the wizard.
  11. If not still in the Internet Accounts dialog select Tools / Accounts and the switch to the Mail tab.
  12. Select your newly created IMAP account and press the Properties button. In the resulting dialog switch to the Servers tab.
  13. Turn the Outgoing Mail Server option "My server requires authentication" ON.
  14. Go to Advanced tab.
  15. Under 'Outgoing Mail (SMTP)' check the box for 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)'.
  16. Under 'Incoming Mail (IMAP)' check the box for 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)'.
  17. To verify your settings use the following links:
         
    General tab settings,  Servers tab settingsAdvanced tab settings
  18. Then press OK and then Close in the Internet Accounts dialog.

Done! You can now begin using Outlook Express to read your COCC email.
